System Components

The SoftScan device is comprised of two main components: an acquisition system and a review workstation.

The acquisition system

The acquisition system is used to position and stabilize the patient’s breast, control the scanning process and acquire optical data. The acquisition system is made up of a scanning unit, an operator’s console, software to control the acquisition process and a support package that includes an optical compensation medium, end-user phantom, IRF calibration device and an operator’s manual.

The review workstation

SoftScan® review workstation

SoftScan® review workstation

The review workstation is a data analysis and visualization tool that automatically generates images for clinical review whenever data is imported via DVD from the acquisition system. It allows clinicians to process, display, manage and review patient studies, and to generate clinical reports about their findings.

DICOM X-ray mammograms can also be imported into the review workstation for co-localization with SoftScan images. Once imported and processed, data is automatically saved in the corresponding series folder in the local storage area and is available for analysis at any time.
